PVR INOX Box Office Peaks: December 2025 Sees Record Admissions
Overview
PVR INOX Ltd. reported December 2025 as its highest admissions month of the year and the third-best post-pandemic, signaling robust audience demand and a strong content slate. The leading multiplex chain highlighted sustained engagement across premium formats, with one film alone grossing ₹375 crore.
PVR INOX Ltd. announced Tuesday that December 2025 stood out as the highest admissions month of the year and the third-highest post-pandemic, underscoring sustained audience demand and a potent content pipeline.
The leading multiplex chain attributed the surge to growing engagement across its premium cinema formats. One unnamed film proved a standout performer, contributing ₹375 crore in Gross Box Office Collection (GBOC) to PVR INOX's total.
Content Slate Drives Box Office Surge
The company noted that 37 films, spanning Hindi, regional, and global titles, surpassed the ₹100-crore mark at the Indian box office during the year. This demonstrates the enduring strength of theatrical demand.
Ajay Bijli, Managing Director of PVR INOX Ltd., described 2025 as a "defining year" for the company, driven by strong execution and a differentiated cinema-led strategy. He emphasized effective programming, pricing, and audience engagement initiatives.
Premium Formats Gain Traction
Bijli also highlighted a renewed enthusiasm from younger demographics, including Gen Z, who are increasingly viewing cinemas as social and immersive destinations. The performance of films like "Dhurandhar," which opened across 1,250 screens with strong footfalls, and "Avatar: Fire & Ash" across premium IMAX, ICE, 4DX, and other formats, reinforced the demand for enhanced cinematic experiences.
Both titles significantly bolstered December's record admissions, supported by strong advance bookings and repeat viewership, according to the company. Despite strong box office performance, a Nuvama report noted that while multiplexes are boosted, advertising revenues remain weak.
