AI Integration and Reforms

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has signaled a significant transformation for Indian Railways in 2026, prioritizing passenger safety and technological advancement. A core element of this overhaul will be the extensive integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into maintenance activities across the network. Vaishnaw stated that 52 reforms are planned for introduction over the 52 weeks of the year, aimed at presenting a thoroughly modernized railway system.

New Structural Approach and Train Services

A new structural framework will be implemented to foster technology and innovation, encouraging collaboration with Indian startups and innovative minds through a dedicated technology innovation portal. Concurrently, the first Vande Bharat Express featuring a sleeper configuration is slated for inauguration on January 17, 2026, at Malda Town. This will be followed by the launch of six "weekly" Amrit Bharat Express trains under the Northeast Frontier Railway jurisdiction on January 17 and 18, 2026, connecting key routes across the country.
